Get to Know Us
Dance heritage goes back to the very beginning of time – stories, foods, drums, rhythm and movement. All played a part of everyday life for our global ancestors, with the main purpose of celebration. All cultures have dance histories, linked to celebrations of harvest, birth, death and nature. This is bought together through the sharing of folklore characters and their stories, along with the costumes and masks that accompany both the story and the dance. As we are overwhelmed with the distraction of modern technology, there is less interest in the origins of dance and the history that goes with it. the diversity of communities can enable a rich learning that contributes to a community that is knowledgeable about the origins of dance and celebration across the nations represented in their locality increasing positive relationships that can influence future society.
At AactionDance, we offer a holistic education of dance, movement and celebration. Each group will have time focused on movement based on physical wellbeing principles, all encouraging the development of graceful movement that encourages good posture and reduced injury potential. The remainder of the time is spent with a very experienced and enthusiastic craft practitioner and her team, learning about the characters of the project at the time, through storytelling and/or research and discussions [dependent on the age group]. The session will include learning traditional craft processes alongside more modern means of craft, to develop masks, make up and simple parts of the costumes for public carnivals and performances.
The ethos of AactionDance is to share knowledge of these arts with younger generations, to keep alive the origins of movement across the global and contribute to a better educated community that is able to truly celebrate the histories of neighbours and friends.
